Cats and dogs can be friends or foes. The battle between them probably existed before both became the pets of humans. While corgis and cats usually do not bother each other, it all also depends on the character of the animals. But when a tomcat gets hunted down by a big dog, it usually comes down to a fright or fight response. While I am not sure if there is a genetic reason for cats and dogs to hate each other, some of them get along remarkably well. Not really surprising when you consider they often receive their food from the same human being.
